** The gentle calling of God
** Psalm 18:35
** “Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.”
The world is full of excess, extremes and selfish pride. There is very little evidence of gentleness meekness and moderation in the world today. Everyone is for themselves, shouting out, “more riches, more possessions, more status, more excess, more self satisfaction, more fame, more idolising things, people and materialism”. People lie, cheat, steal, murder, betray and walk all over one another just to get ahead, just to get the big deal, just to get one shot at being famous, and on and on.
But, know today, God is calling to each of us in a still small voice. He is calling us into gentleness; that gentleness through which God has shown the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us through Christ Jesus, who now abides in us and us in Him; that gentleness which has seen God’s grace and mercy extended to mankind over and over and over again, by which we today can cry out ‘Abba Father’.
We may think that life is unfair and we may ask why we have to put up with all that we have to in life. But the longsuffering of God is displayed in His gentle calling of man; He would have that none should perish. You see there will come a time when God will say now is the time, and when all will see the full extent of the power of God and of the true and fair justice of God.
God is a just God and a fair God and He has been longsuffering with man since the dawn of time. But the end is drawing near and God is gently calling, saying ‘come to me, harden not your hearts, accept my love, let your gentleness be evident to all; look, I have made a way for you in the wilderness, a way which leads to eternal life.’
Today, may we steadfastly show forth the love and mercy of God to others and may we extend the Word of truth to all that we come into contact with so that they too may have the opportunity to experience the grace, the mercy, the love, the longsuffering and the gentleness of God in their lives.
